Audio Systems - 6 cd changer

Expert: Cleggsan - 11/10/2009

Question
I have a 2003 Z71 Pickup with the same system described below.  I am having a similar problem with my CD changer.  In your answer you mentioned the anti-theft code.  How do I get this code?  Is it the same as the satellite radio ID?

thanks

Question
I have a 2003 suburban with a bose 6 cd changer and the cd's are in it and it
won't respond to any commands. I gave it a series of instructions like eject and
change cd simultaneously and the display started flashing and when I hold the
eject button down, it beeps. I would like to get it working, but I need to get the
cd's out at least. Is there a way to reset it or get the cd's out?

Answer
The only reset that I know of is to remove power from the entire audio system for 30 minutes.  This is most easily done by just removing one of the cables from the battery terminal.  But, if the unit has anti-theft be sure you have the code so you can get it started again after restoring power to the head unit.

If that does not clear it you will need to pull the unit; remove the covers and extract the discs by manual forces!

If the unit needs replacement this unit may fit your vehicle

http://www.oemautosound.com/pc-136-147-oem-cd-changer-chevy-trucks-vans-2003-to-...

but I would check with the supplier to make sure.  The price of the replacement changer may be less than major repairs on the old one.

Hope this helps,

Answer
The anti-theft code comes with the vehicle when it is purchased.  If new, it comes from the dealer. If a used vehicle you should not take possesion of it unless the seller gives you the code.  This code is entered into the head unit by pusshing the buttons when the display asks for it.  The purpose is to prevent theives from stealing the radio unit out of the dash.  The theives have learned that these radios are no good without the code and they cannot get it because you must show proof of ownership to retrieve it.  You can contact a GM dealer for retrieval of the code.  They will tell you how to get it and how much it will cost to acquire it.

But, your unit may not even be anti-theft protected.  The manual that comes with the car will tell you that in the section on the entertainment system.

And, as before, if the change is not working you may want to just replace it with an oem replacement unit.  Places like

can provide you with replacement units.

If you are just talking about getting stuck disc out, that is a different question all together.  Send me another question if that is the case.

Hope this helps.
