Hi,  I have a 2007 Audi Q7 3.0tdi se UK market fitted with MMI Basic.  I understand very difficult/expensive to upgrade, Can a separate DVD/TV system be fitted into car for viewing by rear passengers. i.e not affecting MMI basic with red/ black screen.

I don't know the answer to that.  I am inclined to say "yes" you can add a dvd player with the MultiMedia Interface Basic.  But, I am going to refer you to the forum pages and maybe someone on that forum has already answered the question or can link you to an expert who is "in" the MMI loop of technology.

One way of adding dvd play for the rear is a hang-on self contained player.  They come in a bag and plug into the 12v system and have a 7" or 9" screen which is easily viewed by backseat riders.  Installation is a non issue as they merely operate independently from the rest of the car system.  Price is mid range.
