I had the same problem....We have gotten the tape out (using the prying/eject button method) but the tape deck is now not working as if it still thinks a tape is stuck. We also found some labelling from a previous owners tape and have gotten that out -- we don't know if there is more in the unit or not but it won't take a new tape yet.

We had the same problem took it out...Easy but be careful. We got our tape out before we took out radio but this would work to get tapeout as well.



There are two slides on the left side to move the tape up/down. back slide held allowed us to put new tape in and system re-sett the mechanical parts and is working.



Look for paper from tape labels -- we suspect this may have been our underlying cause.
