Audio Systems/2000 Chevy Cavalier Stereo installation problem

Question
We took out a factory stereo from the 2000 cavalier. We replaced it with a Kenwood KDC MP 342U/242U stereo. We purchased the Radio Shack wiring, antenna and faceplate adaptors and hooked them all up. We checked all the connections and they are secure. When we put the negative battery connection back on, we tried the stereo and the face plate does not light up. The stereo accepts a cd and ejects it, but no lights, sound or anything. The fuses are intact for both the stereo and the car. We plugged back in the factory radio which has sound, but the display is not working either. Is there a fuse we can't find in the car fuse box? Seems strange to have power, but no display. We can't seem to figure it out. Thanks for your consideration. Gina

Answer
It seems, based on your description, the power wiring is not correct.

May I refer you to this:

Note that you may have to run a wire from the ignition to the unit switched input.

You must refer to your installation manual on the Kenwood to make sure you have all the power connections wired correctly.  It is best if you check them out with a VOM to make sure you have 12v at the right spots and switched 12v at the right spot.  You can purchase a suitable voltmeter for under $10 at Home Depot or Walmart.

Best wishes.
