I have had the above player almost 20 years.  It always worked well until recently when many of my CDs, especially computer-burned ones, began to "skip".  I tried a special lens-cleaning disc, but that doesn't seem to help.  Is there any "home remedy" for this problem or will this require a skilled technician to repair?

It is easy to repair if you will pardon my humor:

Lift up the player about 6 inches and put a new one in its place.

A player this old is so many generations behind that you are blessed indeed that it has worked so well for so long;  a testament to the greatness of Pioneer brand products.

The likely problem is the laser diode is getting tired and needs replaced.  The cost of repair will be much more than the price of a new player.

You can purchase new cd players for much less than they were a few years ago.

By the way, cd players were introduced into the market only as home players in the year 1982.  Car cd players did not come until 1985 or 6 and changer types not until late 1980s and they were very crude at that time...........   are you sure about the 20 years?  I don't think this model is that old...... but still it is old enough to replace it with new technology..... That is my opinion.

PS: This model no longer appears in the Pioneer support library which means it is over 8 years of age, for sure.
