Question
tried to hook aftermkt jvc to dodge using adapter...only got weak sound in ONE speaker...adapter company said it's probably INFINITY system and I'd have to bypass an amp? do you know how I can wire it up? or would I do better with original sys unscrewed with? thanks

Answer
Try this site:

http://installdr.com/InstallDocs/DCP/PDF/327025.pdf

it will show you the whole idea of wiring up a system in a 1996 Dodge vehicle.

To find out what you have in your van you can go to crutchfield.com and go through the "outfit my car" and if you answer all the questions correctly it will tell you what you need to replace the system.  There are so many different models and combinations it is impossible for me to tell you for sure without knowing all about your vehicle  - b ut the crutchfield page will help you.

If it is an Infinity system there is very likely an external amp that needs to be either replaced or connected up and used.

You can get basic wiring harness for this model (non-Infinity system) at Walmart in their mobile electronics department, as well as Crutchfield or installer.com among other suppliers.  But you will need an adapter for sure.
