Audio Systems - capacitor operation

Expert: Ernesto R - 3/5/2009

Question
I installed a .5f capacitor after i charged it. Now that its installed it runs between 14.4 and 14.6. when i start the car it will show 15.0 or 15.1. when im running the system the capacitor will go back up to 15 and then the display and LEDs shut off but the subs still work. is this normal. The capacitor came with 5g power wire but the car has a 7 0r 8 guage power wire. with such a small power wire can the car charge the capasitor faster than the 750watt amp can pull through such a small power wire.any thoughts???

Answer
that is normal
they don't stay on all the time only if you pull a lot of current it will turn on

this capacitor is very small and not helping much it takes about 1.7 of a second to charge and will be empty in about 0.4 of a second

good luck
