Question
i have 2 jbl gto 1200 watt subs. 1 broke so i need to hook up only 1 so i don't mess up anything. i have an amp w/ a single channel for the sub. do i hook up pos to one side and neg to the other?

Answer
You must know the impedance and make sure it is properly matched to the impedance rating of the amplifier.  If the load is higher than the amp rating it is ok, but if the load impedance is lower it will cause damage to the amplifier.

Go to this crutchfield.com hookup page and select the connection that fits your system.  It is a simple matter once you know the impedance rating of your speakers and amp.

Since you have a single channel amplifier, go down the left hand column of the selections until you find the one that fits your speakers and their impedance. If you already have 2 subs you may as well hook them up, but you decide and follow the hookup diagram that fits your criteria.

Hope this answers your question exactly.
