Audio Systems/Cabling an HDTV to a 10 year old streo receiver

Question
I just purchased a new LCD 1080p, 120 hz TV. I also bought a blue ray player. I have a 10 year old Pioneer Receiver which still works fine. I am interfacing HDMI between the TV and Blue Ray Player. I would like to interface to my existing Pioneer receiver. Do cables make a difference? Are my old analog sound cables good enough? It worked fine with my 7 year old Sony Digital TV.  Thank you

Answer
If your Pioneer Receiver only inputs are analog stereo, and you're satisfied with the sound, I don't see any reason to change anything. You will be missing out on the surround capabilities of your BluRay player, however, if you're only running a 2 channel setup.

If, however, your receiver is capable of surround, you can use the analog surround outputs from your BluRay or the digital audio outs to connect to the Pioneer. What's the model number of the receiver? I can give you much more specific info if I have that.

Thanks!
