my dad was wondering the value of a realistic 909 reel to reel player in a silver case my grandpa purchased it while he was in ww2

Answer
This is a vintage tape machine and I could not find much on it.  But, as a general rule, Realistic (by Radio Shack) do not do so well as collector items. If it were a Sony or Pioneer or Wallensack it could have value but I would not be too encouraged here.

Best way to find out what it may be worth is to put it on eBay and see if you can get bids on it.  I looked for some who might be selling one to see what it was listed at but did not find any sellers posted.
