Question
Hi,  I need a wiring diagram for a Directed 1500 mono block 2 channel amp(only seen 1 channel mono blocks) need to hook it up to 2 10" Obcom dual voice coil 4ohm sups. I have already blew one speaker.  need the best way to wire them and the best gauge of wire I would really appreciate any help you can give me.  Thank you for your time, Anjee

Answer
For a 1 ohm load you can use this diagram:

http://www.the12volt.com/caraudio/woofer_configurations.asp?Q=2&I=42

for wiring it up.

Or, you can do the 4 ohm wiring if there is too much power going into the subs.

But, if you are blowing out the speakers it is usually because of a defect in the speaker or pushing too much power into them (driving them too loud.)  I am not familiar with the speakers you mentioned but you cannot rely on the power rating given by the manufacturer as these figures are not reliable.

If the speaker is driven into distortion you are pushing too hard and will induce overheating into the voice coils and they will fail. So, how you listen to them is a key.

If you want more bass out of them it is critical to have them mounted in the right box, of course.

Hope this helps, but let me know if there is more to the story.

PS: At this level of power the wire gauge is not so critical.  Use 8 or 10 gauge is ok.  Check the grounding and make sure you have a really good ground on the amp.
