Audio Systems - 2005 chevy tahoe - Want to upgrade head unit with sub

Expert: Cleggsan - 6/23/2009

Question
Ok... I have a 2005 chevy tahoe taht has a rear DVD system, satellite radio, and the bose system but not navigation. I have a Alpine head unit with an amp and a 10" sub I have been wanting to put in that vehicle. Best Buy says it (the alpine head unit) can not be installed with the rear dvd system, xm satellite system.  Is there anyway I can install the alpine head unit with all the components like the rear DVD player, satellite radio, and bose system, while adding my amp and sub? I hope I explained this well enough. Thanks for your time and efforts. Have a great day.
Chris

Answer
BestBuy is right.

The problem is the Bose system is totally non-compatible with other manufacturers products.

In order to make any changes in your system there are two ways:

A.  Completely gut out the entire Bose system and install all new equipment, including speakers.

B.  Hire an audio engineer who can design the right interfaces for the Alpine and your sub to the Bose system. There are some conversion kits that might work, but I am not an expert for the Tahoe.  You might try the following for example:

- Go to www.installer.com and see if you can find an interface that will work.

- Or, take a look at this one:

-  Finally, I suggest you get a second opinion from Ernesto who is a real expert for this kind of conversion.  His opinion will be more valuable and precise than mine - at least in this case.

Hope this helps!
