Audio Systems/DVD player will not play

Question
When I select 'play' the screen says 'unknown disc, please check disc again'.
The display says 'REAd' I have tried different DVD's.

The machine is a Zenith combo dvd/vcr [XBR716] and is only about 2 yrs old.

I bought a cleaner disc thing but it will not 'play' either.

Can you help???

Probably the optical pickup assembly and its lens or laser diode have become defective.  It is quite expensive to repair and you might find it less expensive to purchase a new machine.  Dvd players are found in big box stores and specialty electronic stores for $25 and up.
