Question
I have a brand new Kenwood-mp638u and every setting i change, including tuner presets, while the car is on is returned to the original setting when car is turned off.  I do have a good connection straight to the battery so i know that is not the problem. any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Ryan

Answer
There are 2 or 3 power lines to the in-dash unit.
One: For power direct from the battery to the unit; stays on all the time.
Two: From the ignition which turns the unit on and off called the remote line.
Three: The lighting control wire that dims the display with the dashboard lights.

The presets are in memory and when the voltage is lost the memory is lost.  Suggest you look closely at the wiring.

Also, check the ground line and make sure it is a real solid metal to metal connection.

Page 34 of your manual shows the wiring diagram and connections; please double check them out.

In fact, upon examining this page it shows only two 12v lines plus ground.  Check to make sure you are wired per their diagram.

If that does not correct the problem then the memory is corrupted and you may have to do a hard reset.
