Question
I had to remove the front panel and pull out the DVD drive in order to remove a rented DVD that got stuck.  I put the panel back on, reconnected it and turned it on.   It would come on briefly, make a weird noise then shut off.  I pulled the panel back off and now the DVD drive will not go back into the machine.  What have I done and can it be fixed?   Thank you.

Answer
Players are very "mechanical" with lots of moving parts that can and do fail.  Unfortunately, the mechanics are controlled by a microprocessor in the electronics making it difficult to determine if the problem is from a mechanical failure or electronics or software.

If the system is more than a few months old or a couple of years it is probably wise to replace the dvd player with an external one that can plug into the a/v ports in the back.  The fact your was grunting and grinding indicates it has some kind of failure going on - probably.  You can purchase a pretty good simple dvd player for as little as $25.

That is my recommendation.  Sorry for the bad news.

PS: Bose equipment is very difficult to troubleshoot due to the non standard approach used by the Bose designers.  Getting parts and service for them is not painless.
