Audio Systems/Denon DCR head unit and changer

Question
I have a Denon DCR730 head unit and DCH 600 6 disc changer. When trying to play a cd it says "error", tried resetting the head unit and this worked for awhile but not anymore. Any suggestions for a fix or do you know what other brand of changer will work with this head unit?
Thanks,
Ed

Answer
It is a very old unit and probably just tired.  Chances are the laser diode has gone too weak to any longer read the data.  Try cleaning the lens with a cotton swab and blowing out any collection of dust and dirt.  Maybe that will help bring it enough back to life.

I could not find a source for a replacement changer.  Denon is no longer in the auto sound business.  You may have to start over with a new system.

But, get a second opinion from Ernesto also on allexperts.com who has deeper experience than just about anyone on matters like this.

Best wishes.
