Question
QUESTION: I have a Pioneer SD P5705W that is having a screen issue. Some of the colors appear to be "seperating" kind of like a blue shadow. The home repair was quoted to be about $275. Is this a part or parts that buy I can install myself?

ANSWER: I can find nothing on this model number.  Are you sure it is correct?

If this set is a RPTV then it could be the convergence gone bad.  And, the price to repair is about $300.

See if you can find your model in the home repair kits; they are usually around $60 to $80 and require a couple hours of labor.

QUESTION: it seems that i entered the model wrong. on the front of the unit it says projection reciever monitor  SD-P5795W. Is there also more than one part to replace if the convergence has gone bad?

Answer
Convergence requires replacement of two integrated circuits.  They are made by Sanyo and are 18 pin soldered in parts that must be removed and the new ones soldered in with special heat transfer paste added for temperature control.  Often, a resistor also is needed.

The ICs are usually an STK392-xxx.  The xxx could be 110, 160 or 220.  Most probably it will be the STK392-110.  They cost about $20 each. Labor is at least 2 hours for experienced electronic hopefuls; longer if you need to learn soldering, etc.  Techs usually charge about $300 for this kind of repair.
