Question
Heya. I have a Sharp stereo and up until today, it has been working fine. When I push the power button to turn it off, I usually get the standby screen with all the words flashing around (which is no worries) Today I found that the screen was black (true off) when I turned it on to play a CD the CD only plays for about 15seconds before the system shuts itself off (true off) I have NO idea where the remote is and I have pushed all sorts of buttons - why is this happening all of a sudden and is there a way to reset the system? thanks for your help

Answer
ONE: Have you tried a reset?  This is easiest done by unplugging power cord for a full 30 minutes, then try it again.

TWO: In a dark room do you see any evidence of lighting from the panel at all?

THREE:  It could be a bad panel but since the set is dying out after a few seconds it is more likely a bad power supply.  In which case it will require service.  The technician will open the case and get into the electronics section and test the voltage points in search of the bad components.  For example, could be a bad electrolytic capacitor that needs replaced.

Hope this will help you find the solution.
