I have a Kenwood model KDC-MP628,CD receiver, when I put a CD into it a display of (error 05) comes up on the screen and the CD will not play, what is this and can I fix it?

Don't know the specific code or meaning thereof.

However, it is certainly a code telling you the disc cannot be read. If the disc were in upside down or if the laser diode were worn out or defective you would get the same result.

In CD players the optical pickup system is subject to many problem areas.  The failing of the laser diode which is inside is only one; the alignment can be out of adjustment or the lens can be covered over with dust, dirt or some big particles of foreign matter.

Try cleaning the lens with a cotton q-tip and see if that helps.

Unfortunately, repairs are generally more costly than just buying a new cd player and run it through the aux inputs on your receiver.

If you google your model you will find that others have had the same problem and found a variety of repairs or fixes; you can try them.
