Question
Just got dynex surround sound system and i get sound from speakers when playing movie but can not get surround sound on regular tv

Answer
Yes, that is because the tv sound is regular stereo.  The Dynex system probably does not support surround synthesis.

Check the specifications for the model you have and if it lists surround sound for tv then it may be defective, but many lower cost surround sound systems play only stereo when a stereo source is being listened to.
