Audio Systems/No sound

Question
I have a panasonic 5 CD changer player, 2006 model. It suddenly stopped producing sound but can still show on the small lcd screen the  tracks being played or radio playing. The trouble shooting has not worked when i tried it and someone i consulted thought the problem could be some transistor so i wasn't sure whether to believe him thats why i consulted the expert. Please help. Thank you in advance.

Answer
Here are the possible causes for no sound when the disc seems to be playing properly:

- Bad DAC (Digital to Analog Converter) - a special IC
- Dead or weak laser diode inside the optical pickup.
- Optical pickup badly out of adjustment.
- Output transistor circuit defective (very rare, however).

I will require testing to determine which is the real problem.  Unfortunately, the cost of repair for all these possibilities is often more expensive than just purchasing a new CD player or changer.  Sorry for the bad news.

Best wishes in Botswana!
