Question
I have a JVC XL-R5000BK CD?CDR multiple compact disc recorder that just stopped reading the blank cd that iam using to record with...Ihave been recording with this unit since 2001 with no problems...recently I moved it to a new location in a different room, but nothing got bumped or banged or dropped, the room is about 5 degrees cooler...I have purchased 3 different packs of 50 compact disc digital audio recordable discs and the unit will not recognise the disc in the CDR tray, message reads cd disc NG or or blank disc, or CDR no disc????any ideas? Thank you for your consideration in this matter...Greg

Answer
They don't last forever.  It could be from many causes but the most likely is the optical pickup and more precisely the laser diode inside it just gave out and is no longer strong enough to do the reading and writing.

Replacing the optical pickup, if they are even available for a unit this old, would probably cost more than a new recorder unit....  Sorry to say.
