Question
QUESTION: (( If this is a dupliacte question)) Im sorry ... it did not appear to accept it the first time I hit submit ... so I am trying again

My son got this m - audio pro fire 2626, from a buddy almost new - and he has been trying to hook it up to a HP Z400 running windoes XP 64 bit

I can bring computer expertise to the table (thats what I do) and he brings some audio expertise ,,, however, we are having some difficulties

I have not worked on it yet - plan on ssing him in the next few days - he claims he has the correct drivers - yet is hearing a 'popping' sound ... I have visited the official web site of this item, and i am not seeing anything on using this on a winxxp pro 64 bit machine ... could this be the 'real' problem... ? thanks in advance

Nina

ANSWER: It is compatible with XP and has S/PDIF digital inputs as well as analog XLR inputs.  If the PC is outputting S/PDIF compatible should be okey.

Of course it assumes the box is not defective.

It may be just a compatibility problem with the interface to the m - audio pro fire 2626.

Let me know if you need more once you get hands on.

QUESTION: WOW - Quick reply MUCH THANKS your awesome ----

If this is the case -

"It may be just a compatibility problem with the interface to the m - audio pro fire 2626"

what would be your suggestion at that point?

Nina

Answer
First thing is make sure the PC you are using supports S/PDIF and the output connection is compatible with the input connection on the interface box.

The workstation you mentioned does not, according to the spec sheet that I pulled up, have S/PDIF native to the basic machine - unless I missed it.  If it does not have AES digital audio out you may have to add a board.

All the best.
