Audio Systems/1998 Ford Taurus mach stereo issue

Question
Ernesto, My Taurus has the digital display a/c and radio controls.  My 5 disc changer went bad 6 years ago.  I am now experiencing issues with the speakers.  I thought some were blown but after checking - it seems as though something may be wrong with the stereo.  The left rear sounds fine (with either factory speaker plugged in).  The right rear gives off no sounds (there is some slight vibration in the speaker).  Now, the front speakers are sounding terrible, but I have not gotten into the door panel to see if it is just a speaker issue.  The right front gives off sound (yet distorted when you turn it up).  The left front has a very muffled sound when on.  (Right tweeter gives out sound, left does not).
Do you think this is a issue with the unit in the trunk, or the display panel?  If in trunk (stereo or amp problem) - How do I go about replacing it?  If problem is in the display panel (which occasionally flickers or display disappear - yet all controls still work), where can I get a replacement?
Oh yeah - if it is the stereo and amp, and blown front speakers - how can I get to the front speakers in the door?

Sorry to make this so long - just don't want to waste time or money.
Thanks, MM

Answer
The problem is the unit in the trunk , the rcu tuner is defective and needs to be repair or replace

remove the carpet on the  left side of the trunk and you will find the amplifier
you can also use a rebuild ford radio from here
