Question
Why is the screen split in two and shown only in black and white.  Toshiba DVD SD3750

Answer
The only split-screen is when you are using the menu to select titles or scenes when playing a dvd disc.  The black and white could be the setting for progressive scan is not set.  You can put that to automatic selection by going into the menu and the setup panel. If you have your owners manual it will be found on page 56.

If these settings don't help then the player may be defective and need service at a Toshiba servicing shop.  However, the cost of service is often as much or more than the cost of a new player now days ($25 and up), so you must think about that.

Hope this helps.
