Audio Systems/Song Editing without Music generated by Musical Instruments.

QUESTION: Dear Prof Cleggsan

Is it possible to edit solo or duet song without Music generated by Musical Instruments but will have only Human Voice ?.

Example :

Bee Gees, Staying alive Song.

Youtube Video

Example :

Bee Gees Brothers are singing this song. In the background, music
is being played which was generated by musical instruments viz guitar, drum beats etc. The Music played by musical instruments are in sync with the Bee Gees voice. The complete song is recorded on magnetic, Optical media viz CD, DVD, Tapes etc

Is it possible using sound editing software to edit the song without any music generated by musical instrument but the song will
be only with Human beings voice i.e. Bee Gees Brothers ?.

ANSWER: It depends on how and where the master files were generated and stored.  There are many different methods and practices used in the recording studio.  But multi-track recording is nearly always the basic method.  They then take the multi-track recordings and mix them down to stereo, 4-channel, ac-3, etc..

There are products available on the marketplace that will electronically separate the music and vocals from an already mixed program.  These devices work to some degree of satisfaction and depending on the mix down some are more separateble than others.

Audacity is one such system that does all kinds of separation or remixing.

There are other such hardware and software based product you can find on google.

QUESTION: Dear Prof Cleggsan

Thank you.

Example :

A Song of 5 minutes duration. In the 5 minute song track there will be
only :

a. Sound generated by Singer in that 5 minute song without the sound
generated by musical instrument/s.
b. Sound generated by musical instrument/s in that 5 minute song without the sound generated by Singer.
c. Sound mixed with both by the Singer and Musical instrument/s in sync.

The 5 minute song duration which was recorded now should only have Singer's
Voice/Sound and not the sound generated by musical instruments. So wherever in the 5 duration only sound generated by Singer should remain, wherever in the 5 duration only sound generated by musical instrument should be eliminated and wherever in the 5 duration sound generated by both musical instrument and singer were mixed with synchronization should be that the sound generated by singer should not be eliminated but sound generated by musical instrument/s should be eliminated.

The difficult part in the sound editing software application would be
editing the Sound mixing of the Singer and the Musical instruments viz guitar, piano, drum beats etc in synchronization of the song.

I do not understand the question, exactly.  However, it seems you are talking about rather common and ordinary studio work done by recording studios all over the world.  Is there something unique about your 5 minute recording?

If you want total isolation of the instruments from the vocals then they must be recorded in sound proof recording studios or studios separated in time and space there is no crossover program mixed.  And even if they were combined by recording live in one studio the software like audacity does a pretty good job of separating them.  Depends on how much crossover pgm you can tolerate.

Hope this helps.
