Audio Systems/CAR STEREO

Question
Hi Garry!  I hope you can help me with the following:  I had a "Prestige(Audiovox, I believe)Car Stereo" installed by a local company about 3 yrs ago; they're now out of business.  Anyway, all's been well w/radio until recently.  The 3 FM bands (with 6 pre-sets each), don't come in 97% of the time.  The sound is just static.  The 2 AM bands (6 pre-sets each) come in fine, however.  Only once in a very rare while, will FM kick in, if I've put up with the static for a good while.  I'd most certainly appreciate your thoughts.  Thank you!  Tom

Answer
sounds like the fm 'front end' circuitry has become intermittant. it probably boils down to some failing solder connections in the fm section of main board. shops will charge upwards of 200 bucks to fix it due to the time involved to fix it. sorry, but best bet is replacement. by the way, audiovox has always been known to fail way too soon.
