Question
Hi. My name is Patti and my friend, Susan, stuck a 4th CD in a 3 CD changer Nakamichi SS5 Stereo. I think that is what she did since I wasn't there. Anyway, there is an error message that says...E--MECHA. In the instructions, it says to turn off power and then turn on power and I did that a few times. It makes a noise, then the same error comes on and then nothing happens. There is no reset button and no hole to push with a paperclip to release the CD carousel. I don't know what to do for her. Can you please help me?
Thanks.

Answer
Hi Patti,

This error sounds like a mechanical error. Is the fourth CD still in the player? If so, you need to remove it...

I'm not familiar with that particular model of CD player, but you might be able to open the case. Unplug the unit, and look for screws (sometimes they're under rubber feet). Unscrew the screws holding the case onto the player, and look over the mechanicals to see if there is indeed a fourth CD in there.  Also, check to make sure nothing is snapped off inside the unit. I once encountered a CD player with a shattered CD inside. I removed the remnants and was able to use the CD player again.

If you're unable to get the cover off, or if something is indeed broken inside, you may unfortunately be out of luck.

Hope this helps!
