Question
My Audiofile 583LR Home Speakers 8 OHMS, 400 Watts kick out when the volume is turned up. They work fine at low to medium levels.
My amp is Onkyo TX-SR502 6 OHM, 6.1 Ch, 75 Watts per channel.

Look forward to your reply.  Jerry

Answer
not enough wattage is your problem. 75 watts with those speakers just isn't enough. if your onkyo has 'pre out' jacks, i would try driving two at least 300 watt per side amps, that should solve your problem. the only other solution is to get some more efficient speakers, which means you need less power to drive speakers. shoot for at least 94db at 1 watt. in order to increase output of speakers 3db, you have to double your input power. 3 more db, double it again, and so on. this is why it's so important to have the highest spl at 1 watt you can find. jbl, altec lansing, are a couple noted for high 1 watt output.
