Question -
I have a 1998 Ford Explorer Eddie Bauer.  It has the six disk changer, in dash cd and tape deck.  It seems to short out, shuts off, and often times, the buttons don't respond.  The antenna will no longer retract, but still makes the noise.  Very Frustrating!  The display lights no longer work either.  Any ideas?

Thanks, Derek

Answer -
the radio amplifier rcu/tunner box
is not plug right or it got water in it this box is in the rear right next to the side window
you need to remove the right side panel to find it
this unit is responsible for the radio, lights, antenna, and cd changer  i know this car very good let me know what you find and if you need more help
good luck

Hi, got your message.  Thanks for responding, but could you be a little more specific.  You say rear right, next to side window, and to remove right side panel.  Which window, which side panel?  Inside the car, or am I removing a quarter panel on the outside.  Sorry, I know absolutely nothing about cars.  I really appreciate your help.

Thank You!

Derek

Answer -
lets start again
what radio you have
indash cd changer or a tape player ?
this sounds like a dual media radio the indash changer is from 2000 and up

The indash unit has a tape player and a single cd changer.  In the console between the driver and passenger seats there is a six disc changer.

Thanks!

Answer
ok now i understand better
that is call a dual media radio the problem on this radios is the power supply  on the radio and the power supply on the display  both of them are bad  the display can be fix  by removing ,cleaning and resoldering the resistors back in to the board
the power supply board needs to be replace
i know there is a place online that you can buy them from not to expensive under $50.00 email me your email once i found where you can order that from ill let you know
good luck
