Audio Systems/Tape deck won't eject cassette/error message

Question
I have a 1997 Jetta with a factory radio/tape deck. I bought a cassette tape iPod adapter. Sometimes, when I try to eject the tape or play it (to connect my iPod) the screen says "Er 8". Sometimes the tape will play. I think it may have to do with the car being turned on and off...I'm not sure. Do you have any idea?

the volkswagen radio notice that this is not a real tape that error means stuck tape  or it can not read because the tape broke  
did you know that the volkswagen radio tape from a 1998 don't have this  problem and you can also plug the ipod with the correct interface in to the back of the radio and the 98 radio can controll the ipod you can leave in the glove box and use the controls of the radio
