Thanks for the info. Which 98 radios could I use, and will they plug in in place of the 97 radio, which goes to an amp?

If it wasn't for the amp, I'd just throw in an aftermarket radio. In fact, I already have a decent one I could use, which already has line inputs.

Question -
I have a Toyota AD1700 radio in my 97 Avalon. I'd like to convert the 13-pin DIN connector on the back, which is normally used for the factory CD player, to a Line Input. Where can I get the pinout for that 13-Pin DIN connector?

FYI: I also have an identical looking Toyota 11712 radio I picked up from a thrift store for a couple bucks, in case I needed something to experiment with.

save your time i have try that before and it is not that simple  the radio needs to see the cd player to open the port
or a circuit needs to be made that it will emmulate that signal so we can input audio in to the radio
upgrade to a 1998 toyota radio there is a cd button on the tape player  and there are aux inputs for that radio

here is the link toyota makes this radios in 3 configurations

normal sound  2 plugs 6 and 10 pins  no amplifier
premium sound 1 plug 15 pins  most likely you have this one
and jbl sound 1 plug 20 pins

you have to call them and ask about the plugs
