Audio Systems/Ford 2003 Radio going of and on by it self

Both answers are good qualified guesses, but to be precise: This odd behavior is caused by 2 things working together. First, you have too much gunk, spilled soda, and dust built up along the pc board that contacts the bottom row of buttons and the on-off switch. This mixture of goop is somewhat conductive, making the momentary switches unstable(humidity makes it worse). Now lets throw in the 5 spd shifter, with a bit of play from age, and a radio mounting position just ahead of foreard throw on gears 1-3-5,so the lever makes contact with the lower edge of the faceplate(or the trim just below it, and yes, kooky haunted radio! To fix, remove the radio, remove the faceplate, CAREFULLY take it apart and scrub the pc board with alcohol and a toothbrush, followed by a pencil eraser on the contacts. Remove all dust, then reassemble and re-install the radio. Hope we solved your mystery. Good luck!
