Audio Systems - installing new stereo in Chevy 1994 fullsize truck

Expert: - 4/11/2005

Question
Hi Tom
I just bought a new Pioneer stereo for my 1994 chevy cheyenne truck. i connected the wires and everything  according to the manuel but my stereo still doesnt work. I also noticed that my Interior reading lights, Courtesy light and box lights wont come on now. I cant seem to find the Problem?
Terrance

Answer
Terrance,
When you connected the new stereo, did you use an adapter connector that plugs onto the factory connector/s? The problem with the new stereo is most due to having the wires incorrectly connected. The new stereo has a yellow wire that has to go to a 12 volt hot at all times source and a red wire that has to go to a switched 12 volt source that is controlled by the key. Do not connect to any of the dimmer and courtesy wires.
