Audio Systems/back lighting on cd player

Question
My 1995 Corolla came with a standard cd player (model A51813). The only area that is eluminated is the radio station display. I have adjusted dimmer switches, but it has no effect on any of the push buttons. In the dark, you can't see the buttons for am, fm, cd, scan etc. or any of the set radio stations. The dealer claims this is just the way it is. I have a hard time believing it, and a harder time changing stations at night!!. Am I being told the truth?
Thank you

Answer
