Question
HI...
Had this unit about 6 years; it now shuts off immediately (3-4 seconds) after power up UNLESS the Effects switch is set to off. (This makes all output stereo, disabling the 5.1 features and signal processing features like concert hall, Sci-Fi movie, etc.) The unit otherwise works fine.

I searched this site and found a prior response about immediate power off (http://experts.about.com/q/TV-VCR-Stereo-1749/yamaha-reciever-RX-V795a.htm) that seemed more global, and the expert thought this was an expensive repair.

Is my problem similar? Is it worth trying to repair? Thanks in advance for your help.

Robbie.

Answer
i'd go ahead and get it looked at by a servicer that is familiar with and preferrably an authorized service center for yamaha, as this seems to be in a section that can be easily troubleshot, possibly just a voltage regulator feeding the processors that handle the audio process section, as the rest works fine. a shop not familiar, however will spend alot more time just  hunting around for a problem. even if you have to pack it up and ship it out of your area, you'll still make out better with a shop knowledged in yamaha. but it will cost a few bucks, just not as much as if it were dead......
