Question
Hi, when I was a child I has non stop ear infections for 3 years and had 2 sets of tubes put in. I am now 21 and am starting out a nursing program. While doing blood pressures I cant hear anything so I decided that it may just be the quality of the stethoscope that was the problem so I tried using the Littmann's which I heard have the best sound and I still had the same problem. I ended up having to get a 300$ stethoscope with a amplifier. This is frustrating. Do you think that the problems I had as a child could have caused some hearing loss? If so, could this get worse?
Thanks!

Answer
Hi Noelle,
If you are having difficulty hearing, you need to have your ears and hearing assessed immediately by an ENT and audiologist. Yes, it is possible that your problems could be caused by your history as a child; it is also possible that you have nothing more than a wax buildup, but it is also possible that you have an inner ear problem.  If left undiagnosed and untreated there is always the possibility that it can get worse.  You must consult an ENT and audiologist immediately for a full evaluation.
Hope this helps.
