Audiology/Otolaryngology/ear vibrations

Question
I wanted to ask a follow-up question regarding the vibrations I am having in my right ear.
I had seen an audiologist today.  She checked my hearing and it was fine.  She said there were still some loose hairs, but they weren't really touching my ear drum.  She didn't seem to think that was causing my vibrations.
Could loose hairs on the ear drum cause constant vibrations with sound?
Also, I hear my heartbeat in my ear a lot.  What could cause this sensation?

Answer
Hi Jane,
Hairs really do not cause the vibrations you are talking about. Vibrations are usually caused by a Eustachian tube dysfunction.  If the vibrations are also rhythmic and click-like, they may be caused by a spasm of one of the little muscles in your middle ear. Did your audiologist do a middle ear evaluation? Hearing your heartbeat in your ear is not uncommon; it is called pulsatile tinnitus. There are arteries that run very close to the ear and if there is a problem with blood flow, e.g., a blockage, high blood pressure, you may be hearing your heartbeat. You may want your physician to check the carotid arteries in your neck for any abnormalities.
Hope this helps.
