Question
Hi - I had a radical mastoid operation many years ago in 1966 when I was 9, as a result I am 75% deaf in my right ear.  Every doctor has told me that my hearing is not repairable, has anything changed over the years?

Answer
Hi Debbie,
Although your hearing cannot be restored, there may be a lot that can done in the form of hearing aids.  Do you wear one now? There have been great advances in technology and an ear that was not aidable years ago is aidable now. Advances have also been made in reconstructive surgery, although a lot would depend on the extent of your prior surgery and the status of your ear now. When was your last evaluation by an ear doctor and an audiologist?  That would be your first step, to have a complete evaluation. Once your hearing status is known, you can discuss your options with the doctor and the audiologist.
Hope this helps.
