Question
Hello,
Two questions. A. I use earplugs when sleeping, since I live in a noisy area. Is it safe?
B. I have read that cotton buds are not recommended to clean ears. What is the best method?

Thank you

Answer
Hi Apostolos,
Yes,it is safe to use earplugs during sleep. You can use the soft yellow ones that are available over the counter or you can have custom ones made for greater comfort.  Just be sure that you are able to hear the smoke alarm etc. while wearing them.
The best method for cleaning your ears is to do nothing at all.  Ears generally clean themselves.  Earwax slowly migrates toward the opening of the ear canal and is sloughed off. If you want, you can take a washcloth and, using your finger, gently wash the opening of your ear. If you have a pro with earwax buildup, then you need to see a physician, preferably and ear specialist, to have it removed.  He can advise you of over the counter drops that you can purchase to soften earwax and make it easier to remove.
Hope this helps.
