Question
Hi,  I have been diagnosed with cochlear hydrops.  Can it affect the upper teeth?  I have had a tooth bothering me since before being diagnosed.  I have had two root canals and it still at times feels tender around the tooth and feels like it swells up at times.  I have been on diuretics and vertigo pills for about a month now.  I only had one episode of feeling out of balance when I walked. I don't feel I am hearing a whole lot better and am still having the full ear sensation.
Thanks.

Answer
Hi Larry,
How were you diagnosed with hydrops?  There is a very specific test, Electrocochleography that is used for the diagnosis.  Also, have you asked your dentist about Temporal Mandibular Joint disorder (TMJ) And, lastly, do you grind your teeth? Although teeth and the inner ear are not linked in the way you suggest, it is possible that you have TMJ or are grinding your teeth and the symptoms are similar to hypdrops, i.e., dizziness, headache, pain in the ear, etc.
Hope this helps.
