Audiology/Otolaryngology/My 7 year old Grandson

Question
My Grandson, has been having this problem where everything seems louder to him, ie. his mother will be reading a book to him and his sister and he will hold his ears and say mom, why must you yell. Also he sees items that look huge to him, like a book on the table or a clock or what ever.
Do you have any idea that could help us?
Thanks so much
Jim

Answer
Hi Jim,
You need to have your grandson's hearing checked, especially for middle ear problems.  Many times children with a history of middle ear problems have difficulty adjusting to sounds once the infections clear up. As for the vision problem, that is really out of my expertise.  I would suggest you consult an ophthalmologist, particularly one that specializes in pediatrics.
Hope this helps.
