Audiology/Otolaryngology/Ear humming- Ototoxicity

Question
I recently had a sinus infection and was put on the z-pack.  Soon after taking this medicine, I noticed a humming in my left ear.  After doing some research on-line;side effects & Ototoxicity.  I think it is due to the z-pack/antibiotics.  What are some things I could do?  I am concerned about going back to the dr's and getting more drugs!!!!   Like the others that have complained about humming, I too notice that when I turn my head or yawn, it stops for a second.  Other wise, I feel fine.  It's just a constant humm that is an inconvience, really.
Thank you for ANY feedback!

Answer
Hi Ellen,
Z-pak is given as a short-term antibiotic treatment. Any ototoxic effects should resolve after you finish taking the medication, or shortly thereafter.  If you had a sinus infection, it is more likely that you also have a middle ear or Eustachian Tube inflammation or infection that is the cause of the humming.  I suggest you consult an ear specialist and have your hearing evaluated by an audiologist.  If you have fluid in your ear, antibiotics will do no good to relieve the fluid.
Hope this helps.
