Question
hi, i was wondering if you would be able to shed some light on the ear pain that i have been experiencing for the past 3 1/2 years now. the pain i get appears in both ears and is completely random in its frequency. the pain ranges from a sharp stabbing pain which lasts for seconds to a dull pain which can last hours. i sometimes loose hearing/or hearing becomes dull in my ear, left, which is then followed by ringing. i have problems with dizziness and when sitting it seems that the world tilts suddenly. i bump into things constantly and trip over a lot. i also experience allot of facial pain, sever headaches and black lines in my vision which move. i have been seen by 3 different ent doctors who say there is nothing wrong with my ears. i have seen a dental specialist who says nothing wrong there. i have had my vision check...nothing wrong there. and finally ive had both a ct and mri scan...nothing there. i cannot live with this constant daily pain...i donot no where to turn next. ive even seen a herbalist which didnt help.

i sincerely hope you can give me some answers of advice.

best wishes.

lisa

Answer
Hi Lisa,
If you haven't already done so, I suggest that you consult a neurologist.  There are many nerves in the face and head area that, if irritated - neuralgia - may cause the symptoms you describe.  Two that come to mind are geniculate neuralgia and glossopharyngeal neuralgia.  Both of these can cause deep ear pain.  You also should be evaluated for migraines as these can also cause some of these symptoms.
Hope this helps.
