Audiology/Otolaryngology/Is it vertigo?

Question
Hello- I just returned from my honeymoon in Mexico and I am experiencing a feeling of being on a boat, it has lasted 5 days now and it is not getting any better. I feel tired all the time. The only time I do not feel like I am swaying is when I am in a car. This has happened to me another time when I went on a long road trip and I went to the doctor and did not get a lot of answers. They checked my ears and hearing and all was well. Are you familiar with Mal De Debarquement syndrome? Does this sound like vertigo? Are there any treatments? Any advice would be helpful.Thank you.

Answer
Hi Kaley,
Yes, I am familiar with MDD.  Have you seen an ENT?  You probably should have a balance test, called Electronystagmography (ENG).  This test can reveal if there is an underlying cause to your vertigo and dizziness.  Based upon the results of this test, you might need some vestibular rehabilitation that may or may not help your system to readjust itself. Here is a good reference site for you: http://www.dizziness-and-balance.com/disorders/central/mdd.html
Hope this helps.
