I have been diagnosed with Meniere's disease recently and have had symptoms for the last 2 months. The symptoms have been really bad in the last 10 days and I'm having vertigo attacks almost every day. I am on a low sodium diet (under 1 gram per day) and on 25mg of hidrochlorothiazide 2x per day. So far that treatment has not worked. If it continues to be ineffective, what is the next step in treatment and also I'm interested in your thoughts on using gentamicin as a treatment and the risks for hearing loss associated with that. Thankyou
Answer Hi Robert,
You need to return to your ENT and discuss these issues with him. You may need to have your medications adjusted. What tests were done to diagnose the Meniere's? As for gentamicin, it is an ototoxic drug and the risks for hearing loss are high. Treatments are not always effective.
Hope this helps.
