Audiology/Otolaryngology/Sound distortion in one ear

Question
For the past 3 days, sounds in my left ear are perceived to be a full tone
higher than when listening only with my right ear; e.g., if I listen to the
musical note "C" with my right ear (left ear closed), it is heard as a "D" when
heard only with the left. When I put my fingers to both ears and alternate
closing them, the note goes up and down very distinctly. This does not seem
to create confusion between my ears (so to speak) because the right ear
seems to be dominant and input from the left ear is ignored until the right
ear is closed off. I have a history of "silent migraines" (without headaches)
that occasionally effect my vision (scotoma). Could this be related?

Answer
Hi Tom,
There is something known as the right ear advantage meaning that the left hemisphere of the brain has superiority in processing certain sounds. This may be what you are experiencing.

However, you probably should have a complete audiological evaluation to rule out any medical problems.

Hope this helps.
