Audiology/Otolaryngology/ringing in ears

Question
Dear Harriet!  I have been diagnosed with ear effusion in my right ear.
And since March 25th, I have had a ringing - warmth, discomfort in that
ear.  Slowly, it is recovering but so slowly.  I have ringing after lying
down to sleep which decreases during the day so that even in a very
quiet room, I am almost free of ringing. It is very difficult to try to open
the right eustachion tube and when I do, there is a loud squeak and
some strange open feeling afterwards.  I am currently taking sudafed (2)
and wonder if I should also try to take an antihistamine to help drain
what my doctor can see as fluid behind my ear drum (and some
retraction)  The ringing is so very uncomfortable.  I am going to see a
specialist nrxt month, but wonder if there might be something else I can
do to help relieve the fluid.  With my appreciation

Answer
Bracha,
You need to follow your physician's advice and not take any more medication without his advice. If the ringing is unbearable and you start to feel pain, you need to contact your ENT and try to see him sooner than next month.

Hope this helps.
