Question
hello,

recently in the past few months i have been noticing a vibration in my right ear when hearing certain high-pitched noises (most noticeably cellphones ringing, oven and microwave timers).  it seems almost like my inner ear is spasm-ing when i hear these sounds.  i am not experiencing any hearing loss, but the vibration is happening consistently.  can you give me any indication as to what this might be, or what can be done about it?  should i be getting medical attention for this?

Answer
Hi Dara,
You need to consult an ENT and have your hearing evaluated by an Audiologist.  It sounds as if one of the little muscles in your middle ear is going into spasms.  This is known as a myclonus. Although in itself, a myclonus is not usually dangerous, it may indicate something more serious.  Usually it will resolve on its own; if not, the physician may prescribe anti-spasmodics.

Hope this helps.
