Audiology/Otolaryngology/hearing muffled after myringotomy procedure

Question
Three days ago I had a myringotomy procedure done to my left ear. The ear had been plugged up for 6 months and the ENT said this may help. He just made the incision and did not put in tubes. My hearing since the procedure has been muffled and I hear a faint ringing. Is this normal until the incision heals?

Answer
Hi Susanne,
You need to return to your ENT.  The incision itself closes in a few days.  It is possible that there is an accumulation of debris in the canal from the drainage. Or it could be something else.

In any case, you need to at least call your ENT and describe the symptoms to him/her.

Hope this helps.
